３人の子供たちが行方不明になったカナリアの手がかりを探す話。
これまでの作品同様、序盤から散りばめられた伏線が
綺麗に収束していくところが素晴らしい。
常に緊迫感とテンポを維持し、
読むのを中断できないほどの強い引きがある。
今回は人の名前が多く登場するので
それぞれどの家のどういう人だったかを整理しないと混乱するが、
子供たちの言動を中心としたリアルな英語表現が伝わってくる。
